The 2023-24 athletic year was one of the most successful seasons in recent memory for the Geneva College athletic department, with several of the highlights listed below:
Fall
One of the first highlights of the year was junior Kevin Arseneaux becoming Geneva’s first individual PAC Champion in cross country when he won the event in October. On the women’s side, sophomore Carmen Medvit and Hailey Carroll placed second and third overall, respectively, and both eventually qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships in November, with both finishing among the top 100 runners, led by Medvit’s 64th place finish, out of almost 300 runners.
Men’s soccer put together its best season in several years, cruising through conference play without a loss, and the Golden Tornadoes culminated their excellent year with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Grove City in the PAC Championship game in front of over 2,000 fans inside Reeves Stadium.
Winter
Men’s basketball had its best season in over 25 years, finishing first in the PAC regular season standings with an impressive 18-2 conference record. The Golden Tornadoes then put together an impressive 83-63 victory over Saint Vincent in the PAC Championship game inside Metheny Fieldhouse in front of a packed house of over 2,500 fans.
Women’s basketball nearly accomplished the same feat, advancing to the PAC Championship game for the first time in program history, including an upset at No. 1 seed W&J in the semifinals, before falling to Chatham in the title game.
Graduate student Jack Garvin had a standout indoor track season, becoming one of the top high jumpers in all of NCAA Division III. He qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship where he finished 15th overall. In addition to Garvin, Arseneaux had a standout PAC Indoor Championship meet in which he was named the Most Valuable Performer at the championships.
Spring
Softball put together its best season since winning the PAC Championship in 2021, finishing in a tie for first in the PAC regular season standings. The Golden Tornadoes went on to advance to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) World Series in Kansas City, Missouri, where the team made a run to the NCCAA Semifinals before falling to eventual national champion, Concordia (MI).
