Geneva College is proud to announce the recipients of this year’s Life G Award. The “Life G” Award, Geneva’s highest alumni honor, is presented each year to a graduate for service above self, one who embodies the principles for which Geneva College stands and whose efforts on behalf of the College, the community, and the nation have been exemplary. Bill Weir ’73, Dr. Paul A. Pupi ’62, MD, and Barbara (Pawk) Pupi ’63 are the recipients of this year’s awards and have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to servant-leadership in their field of work.

Bill Weir ‘73

Bill entered the field of health care administration initially with ServiceMaster Hospital Corporation, then Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle, PA. In 1978, the Lord laid on his heart a call to move his young family to Pittsburgh to serve the Reformed Presbyterian Home, first as assistant administrator, then as administrator, and finally as chief financial officer.

Bill’s service to the Reformed Presbyterian Church includes thirty years on the Geneva College Board of Corporators and a total of 43 years as a shepherding elder in two congregations. He is treasurer of his presbytery.

Bill was awarded Geneva’s Distinguished Service Alumni Award in 1997.

Dr. Paul A. Pupi ’62, MD

He was elected president of the Student Senate and Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Med, Paul spent the next nine years attending Thomas Jefferson Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia preparing for a future in general surgery. Following graduation Paul served two years in the military.

In 1971, Paul joined the practice of Doctors Bill Coghlan and Vince Cuddy in Beaver County, serving three hospitals before the Medical Center (now Heritage Valley) was built. Paul retired from his medical practice after 40 years of service.

Paul was inducted into the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame in 1986 for his athletic accomplishments. The following year Geneva gave tribute to Paul’s medical service to the community, honoring him with the Distinguished Service Award in 1987.

Barbara (Pawk) Pupi ‘63

After graduation Barbara taught school in the Philadelphia suburbs and returned to teaching after their five children were raised.

Doors opened for her to host Women of the Word conferences in Pittsburgh and across Pennsylvania. During those 10 years she was ordained, received a theology degree from CLST, traveled internationally, and still leads Hannah’s Hope International Ministries. The Faithful Service Award was given to Barb for her service and dedication to the women of her state by Christian Believers United.

Following those years, she co-founded and directed a School of Ministry for the region, served on the Western PA Missions Board, and chaired the Beaver County National Day of Prayer. For the past 15 years she has been known as Pastor Barbara to those on the behavioral health unit of the hospital where she holds a weekly church service for Christians United.

In 2003 she received the Distinguished Service Award from Geneva College.
